Själsligt mörker i modern chtulhumytologi

I would like to begin today's text with a quote by William Faulkner:

"The only thing worth writing about is the human heart in conflict with an existential crisis and insurmountable guilt brought upon by deep trauma."

Or at least I think that's how the quote goes; I never really cared for Faulkner myself.

Today's text is about The Things We Leave Behind, the 2017 Ennie nominated anthology of adventures for Call of Cthulhu 7Th Edition by Stygian Fox Publishing. The Things We Leave Behind presents 6 modern day scenarios for the Call of Cthulhu, each with an ambitious concept. The back of the book tells you that it "…takes a mature look at the horror of human nature and its ability to be just as disturbing as anything from the Mythos." and it does so by crafting some of the starkest and haunting modern horror story scenarios I've consumed in a while. The subtext of the adventures are that they want to use the roleplaying platform and the horror setting to delve deep into the every day and all to real horrors of child abduction , abuse, drug addition, amnesia, domestic  violence, desperation, ptsd, depression and regret in allegorical and metaphorical ways. To continue the quote provided by the publisher "The scenarios deal with unavoidable fates, dark secrets...As so often is the case, there are no winners when fate has trapped you in a dice game for doom or destiny."

If any of this sounds like your thing, than don’t let what could be a lost or obscure little book pass you by, they may never be another book that reaches so high and brings the party down so low.
