Cornwall, 1786.

For years, the villagers of Mirecoombe have turned to Lord Pelagius Hunt, their Keeper and mediator between the worlds of men and fey. But times are changing. Belief in the old ways has dimmed, replaced by the Reverend Cleaver’s fiery sermons. His church stands above the mire, and God’s name is whispered and loved. Now, death stalks Mirecoombe on the moor. Corpses lie in the heather, and blood stains the gorse.

Nancy Bligh is determined to maintain the balance between the fey and human world, a role Pel refuses. Blessed with natural sight and a friend to spriggans, piskies, and locals, Nancy possesses a power Pel never allowed her to use. But as Mirecoombe descends into darkness, her time may have come.

Gorse is a poignant and lyrical examination of faith, love, and grief, asking what we choose to believe and how it shapes who we are.
