A Photo Book of Dice A crazy idea? Yeah, it's definitely unusual. A photo book about dice. People's first response when they hear about the project is typically, "What did you say?" After they see the pictures, the questions change to "When is the book coming out?" and "Can we buy these as prints, too?"
I've been playing table-top board games and role playing games since I was a kid, and they've always been a huge part of my life. And wherever there is gaming, there are dice. First just a few, and then more, until it develops into a whole collection . An article for the Swedish gaming magazine Fenix on dice containing a few images prompted an idea from the editors that there should be a whole photo book on the subject, and now, six months and hundreds of hours of photography later, we're ready to complete it.
This book is an homage to the ultimate symbol of table-top and role-playing-game culture. Starting with the color, form and function, I let the dice inspire me. Random chance, luck and probability have even permeated my approach to photography. The work has aroused thoughts on matters of order and chaos, determinism and free will. These subjects too will be a common thread throughout the book. What, of our reality, is just a consequence of a billiard game of atoms and planets following the Big Bang, and what can we actually influence and control? Dice are so much more than just small pieces of plastic. Each set is a work of art and this book will attempt to show that to the world.
