A Woman, a Gun and a Noodle Shop

Yimou Zhang directs this black comedy thriller based on the 1984 Coen brothers film Blood Simple. The action is transposed to a small desert town in feudal-era China where noodle shop owner Wang (Dahong Ni) is a lazy, mean-spirited man who treats his young wife (Ni Yan) with contempt. Sick of his bullying ways, his wife buys a gun from a travelling merchant and asks her lover (Xiao Shen-Yang) to shoot her husband with it.
Unbeknown to her, however, Wang has already recruited a contract killer to murder both her and her lover. To confuse matters even further, the hitman turns out to have a homicidal agenda of his own.
