Utagawa Hiroshige's delicately hued images invite you to experience the natural world. Depicting tempestuous seas, the moon reflected in a rice field, and fireworks over a serene bay, these landscapes and idyllic village scenes illustrate the Edo period, an unprecedented two centuries of peace and prosperity in Japan. These "pictures of the floating world," or ukiyo-e artworks, capture fleeting moments of beauty in everyday life. Hiroshige was one of the last great masters of traditional Japanese woodblock printmaking. The 12 highly detailed prints in this calendar are in the collection of The Art Institute of Chicago. All of Pomegranate's calendars are printed with soy-based inks on environmentally sourced paper.
